The Use of Modular Spaces Throughout History

Picture1Advanced Modular Space is proud to be a leader in the modular industry. To be on the cutting edge means a company has to have strong roots- and we’re especially proud of ours. As we were looking back at the history of modular construction, we found many interesting stories and facts. So today, Advanced Modular Space is going to give you a small history lesson on modular construction.

More than two centuries ago, a man named Henry Manning put out the first advertisement for a prefabricated, modular home, the first of its kind. In the 1800’s, the modular construction process wasn’t used just for housing- one of the largest modular projects was a 1,000 patient hospital. During the Gold Rush, the need for workforce housing was high, and the industry began to see rapid growth.

Between 1910 and 1940, Sears had sold over half a million prebuilt homes. This was just the top of the iceberg though, as after World War II, the market exploded with demand from soldiers returning home.
When the first two-part modular home that met all modern building standards and codes was made in 1958, the modular construction process was cemented as reliable and efficient alternative to traditional construction.

These days, prefabricated buildings are used for nearly every industry- Advanced Modular Space provides new and used modular buildings for many applications, like industrial, government, education, and commercial. Aries provides modular buildings, both new and used for industries of all sorts these days. When you need a modular space rapidly and economically, AMS is the way to go. From centuries past to now, Advanced Modular Space is proud to stay on the cutting edge of the modular industry.
